State Parks

Lovers Key State Park
Fun for the whole family; experience all of the great outdoor adventures at Lovers Key State Park .  Join a naturalist for one of the many biking and hiking tours of the Black Island Trail, exploring the flora and fauna of this maritime hammock.  Kayak and boat tours will explore the beautiful waterways of Lovers Key State Park and the natural estuary of Estero Bay .

The park’s recreational activities include boating, fishing, swimming and shelling.  Black Island , Lovers Key, Inner Key and Long Key make up this 712-acre state park, which features canals and tidal lagoons, fringed with mangroves, which support an array of fish and other aquatic animals.

This is a favorite area for the West Indian manatees and for a wide variety of bird life including osprey, herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills, and more.  Trout, redfish, snook and tarpon are caught seasonally. Castnetting for mullet in the bay is a popular activity.

A boat ramp is available for access to adjacent Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico . A canoe launch is also available. This canoe launch is the terminus of the 7-mile Estero River Canoe Trail that begins in Koreshan State Historic Site.

    The Fort Myers Historical Museum is housed in the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot ( 2300 Peck Street); it is home to the history of Southwest Florida . Calusa Indians, Spanish explorers, and early settlers are just a few of the people you will meet as you view our exhibits.   • Burroughs Home – The Burroughs Home is a Georgian Revival Mansion built in 1901. Located in downtownFort Myers next to the Edison Bridge overlooking the Caloosahatchee River , considered a prestigious area at the turn of the century.  Guides costumed in style of the WWI era give a ÒLiving HistoryÓ tour.  They portray members of the Burroughs family, as they were when they purchased the house in 1918.
